I spent Saturday at the Alexandra Writers Centre, taking a course on first person fiction with Rona Altrows. I thought I might discover an ability to write for adults, but no. It didn’t happen.
Rona led us through meeting a new character, Blue, and gradually learning about that character both as a writer and from within that character’s voice. Mine was a wizard. What can I say? It’s part of a story I’m working on and he was dressed in blue and … well, that’s a thing in my story. So clearly he was a wizard.
People ask if I’ll ever write for adults, as if that would somehow be a better thing, and I say, “No, I love writing for kids.” But I’ve wondered at the depth of that focus, and thought the course might shake it up. Apparently not. It’s kids all the way for me. Wizards rule!
