While I was pulled away from my main project by editing and renovations, bits of the story kept nagging me. The nags didn’t have any clarity; they were more like dull aches in the teeth that couldn’t be precisely defined. Eventually a problem would emerge far enough that I could take a good look at it.
Then it would lurk for a while, wanting attention, wanting a solution, waiting impatiently for me to figure it out. Slowly my brain would chew on it, slowly come to understand what was wrong, and then, finally, ideas would emerge and start to play.
Now that I’m officially back at work on the story, I’m tucking those ideas into their rightful places, weaving in details to add depth to my world and, hopefully, make it more convincing.
