Through my fall of world building, I’ve been collecting an ever-growing pile of research notes, story tidbits and images. I kept ignoring the mess, hoping it would somehow transform itself into something vaguely useful. However, the magic of Christmas has passed and I’m forced to admit – the pile of drek remains.
I tackled it this week, and I’m actually getting through it. I’ve collected photocopied research notes and images into appropriate piles, neatly clipped and labeled. Now I’m typing up all my scrappy notes and slowly sorting them into categories – research topics, story tidbits. The story is starting to take form, too, as ideas settle in to place.
I’m not done sorting yet, but at least now I see there’s hope – no magic needed. I can actually get through this myself and have something useful when I’m done.
